Cooperatives of saving and credit: an alternative for local development in the province of Esmeraldas-Ecuador.

  • Abstract:

The purpose of this research was to know the contribution of savings and credit cooperatives in the province of Esmeraldas, therefore, they were analyzed as an alternative for local development. For this, a descriptive qualitative-quantitative methodology was used, with application of the deductive method, to identify the context of these entities under an economic approach. The interview and survey technique was applied, the first was addressed to officials and the second to the partners of the institutions through semi-structured questionnaires. The results show that despite the increase in the number of clients and having reached vulnerable sectors of the economy, there are factors that limit the growth of their operations such as: lack of advertising of the services offered, geographic location, obsolete operating systems, lack of procedure manuals. This allows us to conclude that the growth of the COAC’s depends on their services, credit lines and the financial culture of their partners and possible potential clients, which ratifies them as an alternative for development by generating work through the injection of capital.
