ACTIVITY OF MYCOCINS PRODUCED BY Wickerhamomyces anomalus ON STRAINS OF Escherichia coli

Mycocins are glycoprotein compounds secreted by some yeasts, such as Wickerhamomyces anomalus, these substances have antimicrobial action causing the death of susceptible microorganisms. Escherichia coli is a bacterium that belongs to the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals, but its presence in water indicates fecal contamination and the possible presence of other pathogenic microorganisms. In the search for new alternatives of antimicrobial agents, this work aims to evaluate the power of action of mycocins, produced by W. anomalus WA40 on the development of E. coli strains. The experiments were carried out through the microdilution broth test and also the antimicrobial activity test in solid medium. The result showed susceptibility of E. coli strains when the mycocins dilutions were applied. In the solid medium test, it demonstrated the inhibition of E. coli growth when the mycocins was applied to the culture medium. Thus, it demonstrated that mycocins are able to inhibit the antimicrobial activity of E. coli.

  • Abstract:

Thus, it demonstrated that mycocins are able to inhibit the antimicrobial activity of E. coli.
