  • Abstract:

COVID-19 is a highly infectious disease called coronavirus-19, by the World Health Organization (WHO), with clinical repercussions of acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Recent evidence has shown involvement of the neurological and muscular systems originated by COVI-19 infection. The aim of this study was to conduct a narrative review of the literature describing secondary repercussions of neuromuscular functional impacts of the new coronavirus, using a database of scientific articles, books, websites and journals published in the last three years on the subject, except for classical references that helped in understanding the analysis of the mechanism of the new coronavirus-2019. For the narrative review, a search was performed in the databases Google Acadêmico, Scielo, Periódicos Capes and Pubmed. The fundamental question was defined:  What are the neuromuscular manifestations caused by covid-19? The searches take place from February to June 2021 and the key words used in the search were: neuromuscular manifestations, SARS-Cov-2 infection, central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. The results obtained show symptoms associated with COVID-19 infection, with neurological manifestations such as vertigo, headache, stroke, encephalopathy and encephalitis; and neuromuscular manifstations myalgias, myositis, rhabdomyolysis and polyneuropathies such as Guillian-Barré syndrome. In view of the above, covid-19 infection is considered to leave neuromotor sequelae, but it is still uncertain the involvement in the medium and long term.
