CONTRADIÇÕES DO ESPAÇO SOCIAL: ESTUDO DAS REPRESENTAÇÕES CONTRÁRIAS À MINERAÇÃO DE OURO EM PARACATU, MG
A mineração na América Latina tem
gerado grande número de conflitos. No Brasil,
como caso exemplar, destaca-se a mineração
de ouro a céu aberto em Paracatu, MG. Diante
de discursos e práticas hegemônicas que
reforçam o papel central da mineração para
o desenvolvimento, aumento no número de
empregos na arrecadação tributos, objetivamos
compreender a produção e circulação de
representações contrárias à mineração em
áreas urbanas. O arcabouço teórico remete à
discussão de mineração na América Latina e
no Brasil, vinculada aos conceitos de espaço
e representações. Quanto à metodologia,
realizamos pesquisa documental em conteúdos
encontrados na mídia que contestam a atuação
da empresa mineradora e do poder público local.
Indicamos nos resultados que as representações
tratam da expansão da fronteira da mineração,
da luta pelo direito à saúde e de alternativas à
miséria da vida cotidiana, intercalando o lamento
pela perda das condições de vida anteriores e
o desvelamento de relações socioespaciais
opressoras.

Abstract:
Mining in Latin America has
generated a great number of conflicts. In Brazil,
as a relevant case, stands out the open gold
mining in Paracatu, MG. Before hegemonic
discourses and practices that reinforce the
central role of mining for development, increasing
the number of jobs and tax collection, we aim
to understand the production and circulation of
anti - mining representations in urban areas.
The theoretical framework refers to the mining
discussion in Latin America and Brazil, linked to
the concepts of space and representations. As
for the methodology, we conducted documentary
research on media content that challenge the
performance of the mining company and the
local public power. We indicate in the results
that the representations show the expansion of the mining frontier, the struggle for the right to health, and alternatives to the misery of
everyday life, interweaving the lament for the loss of previous living conditions and the
unveiling of oppressive socio-spatial relations.
