NECTÁRIOS FLORAIS E EXTRAFLORAIS EM Passiflora glandulosa CAV.

  • Abstract:

Passiflora L. is the most representative genus in Passifloraceae, its species are characterized by present abundant floral (FN) and extrafloral (EFN) nectaries. The aim of this study was to describe the morphoanatomy of the floral and extrafloral secretory structures in Passiflora glandulosa Cav., and to use histochemical tests to detect the presence of sugars in its exudates. Samples of leaf blades, petioles, bractes and sepals were fixed and subjected to the usual techniques in plant anatomy and scanning electron microscopy. Fresh sections of these structures and their apparent exudates were analyzed using histochemistry. In P. glandulosa, FN and EFN consist of a secretory tissue, with uni or bistratified palisade epidermis. In addition, the histochemical tests showed a positive reaction for total polysaccharides and reducing sugars. Thus, it is confirmed that the floral and leaf secretory structures of P. glandulosa are in fact floral and extrafloral nectaries, respectively. These results provide important information for studies on the taxonomy and floral biology of this species.
