  • Abstract:

In Brazil, the first records of interventions in the field of food are from the 1940s. In this period, food education suffered political and ideological influences, focusing on the binomial "food and education". (CASTRO; PELIANO, 1985). Since then, food and nutrition education has been a way of promoting healthy eating practices; aiming to improve health conditions and prevent diseases (SOBRAL & SANTOS, 2010). Eating habits formed in childhood influence adult life; that is why nutritional education from the preschool stage is very important, so that children can make their food choices more consciously (PRATES et al., 2016). The objective of this work is to show the effectiveness of nutritional education for promoting healthy habits in children at school, through different strategies. Five scientific articles were selected from the PUBMED, GOOGLE SCHOLAR and SCIELO databases with the keywords nutritional intervention, education, nutrition, elementary school, one in Portuguese and four in English. YOKOTA, RTC, et.al., 2010, concluded that both the holding of training workshops on nutritional education for teachers, as well as the direct delivery of lectures and other pedagogical activities for the school community by the nutritionist, are equally useful processes of nutritional intervention in the school environment. In turn, MOHAMMAD, A. and collaborators (2019) and DOUSTMOHAMMADIAN, A. and collaborators (2020) in their respective review studies, analyzed several strategies for food and nutrition education for elementary school children and their effectiveness in promoting habits healthy for this audience. LEE, J.E and collaborators (2017), showed that the use of smartphone applications are a good and effective intervention strategy for changes in eating behavior. Finally, MAHMUDIONO, T. et al. (2020) suggested that interventions based on the theory of behavior are effective in promoting healthy habits. With this review we were able to conclude that CBT has an important and positive influence on nutritional education. The strategies of food and nutrition education based on CBT are more effective in promoting healthy habits of children in school.
