  • Abstract:

The present study aimed to identify the organizational competencies that influence the sustainable performance of companies that received the Green Seal from the Pernambuco Commercial Board (JUCEPE), in 2016. The concern with sustainability is of significant importance for institutions and governments that seek alternatives to reduce impacts environmental effects generated by human activity in terms of air, soil, water and quality of life pollution on the planet (PFITSCHER et. al., 2008). The study in question consists of a multiple case study, exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitative approach. Document analysis and interviews with companies awarded the Green Seal were used. The results show that all of them develop sustainable programs; control and reduce environmental impacts; have internal and external environmental education actions; develop actions with stakeholders; and have already received other environmental awards and certifications. The motivations for adopting sustainable practices are since the foundation and generate financial and socio-environmental savings. The main competencies that underpin sustainability are continued technical training for employees, shared responsibility with suppliers, economic, environmental, social and operational sustainability, corporate governance with integrity and compliance with legislation.
