  • Abstract:

Objectives: Get to know the experience of social distancing during quarantine and to identify the motivations that lead 60+ students to practice online senior Dance classes. Method: Qualitative study based on the Social Phenomenology of Schütz, with the participation of 14 60+ students who attended the online classes (live broadcastings) of senior Dance during the first semester of 2020, twice a week, lasting 60 minutes. The data were collected through interviews, with open questions, by telephone. The speeches were categorized by means of phenomenological reduction. Result and discussion: They were divided into: Experiencing the pandemic; “Reasons why” and “Reasons for” participating in the live broadcastings. The categories of “Experiencing Pandemic” were: Being forced to stay at home; Not feeling well; Looking for distraction at home; Feeling anxious about returning to normality; Communicating with family / friends via virtual means. “Reasons why” participating in the live broadcastings categories: Like and miss the face-to-face senior Dance class at EACH; Enjoy being among friends in senior Dance. “Reasons for” participating in the live broadcastings categories: Interacting with the teacher / friends during the live; Having fun and missing the workshop. Final considerations: Despite the quarantine, 60+ students somehow carry on their physical activities and are motivated to keep an active and consequently healthier aging. It showed us that the live broadcasting should continue through the COVID-19 pandemic.
