  • Abstract:

Oral cancer is one of the diseases with the highest incidence and mortality in the world. The progression of the disease is related to the proliferation of invasive cells resulting due to genetic disorder or environmental stimulus. This review focuses in the genetic alterations, risk factors and the treatment to oral cancer. The terms used in the bibliographic research were: oral cancer, genetic mutation, treatments, associated factors. Most articles emphasize tobacco, alcohol and HPV as extrinsic factors and also highlight genetic mutations that alter the DNA sequence and cause instability of the genes. The union of all these facts pointed out together with the lack of information and late diagnosis make treatment difficult and make the problem even more severe.
