THE ARTIVISM OF GRAFFITI ARTIST, BANKSY, AS A TEACHING STRATEGY FOR READING IMAGES THROUGH VISUAL STUDIES

  • Abstract:

This article aims to present the creative process of graffiti artist, Bansky (JONES, 2012;) and his relationship with political art/artivism (BOAS, 2015; VIEIRA, 2007) through Visual Studies (BREA, 2005; MOXEY, 2005) and the teaching of art (BARBOSA, 2008, 2004), in order to encourage the reading of images as well as make known the artist's creative process and his unique originality. In addition, the work seeks to highlight the political aspects and aesthetic reflections of his art. This article aims to analyse how visual education and the strategies of Artivists can contribute to the reading of images, access to art and political criticism? Therefore, we work with the initial hypothesis that art enhances political discussion and requires a critical reading of the world. The analyzes revealed that political art / artivism consists of a powerful didactic strategy to encourage the reading of images, in addition to instigating the political engagement of citizens.
