A UNIVERSIDADE PARA QUEM TEM MAIS DE 50 ANOS: UM ESTUDO DE CASO EM UMA IES DO MEIO OESTE DE SANTA CATARINA, BRASIL
Nos últimos anos, tem sido observado um aumento da população idosa em relação às demais, bem como uma maior longevidade e expectativa de vida dessas pessoas. Com isso, atualmente se percebe uma presença cada vez crescente desse público nos mais diversos meios da sociedade, dentre os quais destaca-se o acadêmico, no qual tem sido considerável a inserção de pessoas com idade superior a 50 anos. Nesse sentido, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi verificar quais foram os motivos que levaram as pessoas com mais de 50 anos a ingressarem no ensino superior. Para isso, este estudo, de natureza quantitativa, do tipo descritiva e survey, teve como amostra 20 alunos dos cursos de administração, direito, psicologia, agronomia, engenharia elétrica e serviço social de uma Universidade situada no meio oeste do Estado de Santa Catarina, no Brasil. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que a maioria dos entrevistados retornou à universidade em busca de novos conhecimentos, para realizar um antigo sonho, aperfeiçoar-se profissionalmente, para manter-se ativo após a aposentaria e para se reinventar na profissão. Conclui-se que são necessários estudos complementares, no sentido de fazer com que esta inserção ocorra devidamente por meio da Instituição de Ensino Superior, já que tem sido crescente a demanda dessa população no meio acadêmico, e com isso se requer adaptações para melhor atendê-la.

Abstract:
In recent years, an increase in the elderly population has been observed in relation to the others, as well as a greater longevity and life expectancy of these people. With that, nowadays an increasing presence of this public is perceived in the most diverse means of society, among which stands out the academic, in which the insertion of people over the age of 50 has been considerable. In this sense, the objective of this research was to verify what were the reasons that led people over 50 to enter higher education. For this, this study, of a quantitative nature, of the descriptive and survey type, had as sample 20 students from the courses of administration, law, psychology, agronomy, electrical engineering and social work of a University located in the west of the State of Santa Catarina, in Brazil. The results obtained indicated that most of the interviewees returned to the university in search of new knowledge, to fulfill an old dream, to improve themselves professionally, to remain active after retirement and to reinvent themselves in the profession. It is concluded that complementary studies are necessary, in order to make this insertion occur properly through the Higher Education Institution, since the demand of this population in the academic environment has been growing, and with that adaptations are required to better serve over there.
