CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS PRESTADOS AO IDOSO NA UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA: ENFOQUE NO PAPEL DO ENFERMEIRO
Introdução: Os cuidados paliativos na unidade de terapia intensiva dão suporte aos idosos e familiares presentes, dando-lhe um ambiente confortável, propício para um resultado eficaz para que obtenha uma resposta rápida para a cura, tendo a total compreensão e respeito ao seu estado de saúde e/ou término de vida. Objetivo: Descrever os cuidados paliativos prestados ao idoso na unidade de terapia intensiva, tendo como enfoque o papel do enfermeiro. Material e Métodos Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada entre abril a outubro de 2019, fazendo uso de publicações indexadas na base de dados eletrônicas: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO) e Base de Dados em Enfermagem (BDENF). Resultados e Discussão: No total foram encontrados 13 artigos de atenderam aos critérios de inclusão deste trabalho. Desta forma, entende-se que o enfermeiro como profissional mais próximo do idoso necessita refletir sobre as possibilidades de cuidado e ser capaz de identificar alternativas para proporcionar a melhor qualidade de vida possível para os idosos terminais. Conclusão: Percebe-se que o enfermeiro precisa proporcionar um cuidado humanizado e singular ao idoso, a fim de minimizar desconfortos físicos e problemas sociais, psíquicos e emocionais que podem ser ocasionados por essa doença. Tais ações permeiam a filosofia dos cuidados paliativos, caracterizados por alívio dos sintomas, promoção da comodidade e de bem-estar.

Abstract:
Introduction: Palliative care in the intensive care unit supports the patients and family members present, giving it a comfortable environment, conducive to an effective result so that it obtains a rapid response to healing, having full understanding and respect for their health status and/or termination of life. Objective: Describe the palliative care provided to the elderly in the intensive care unit, focusing on the role of the nurse. Material and Methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, conducted between April and October 2019, making use of publications indexed in the electronic database: Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Nursing Database (BDENF). Results and Discussion: In total, 13 articles were found to meet the inclusion criteria of this study. Thus, it is understood that nurses as a professional closest to the patient need to reflect on the possibilities of care and be able to identify alternatives to provide the best possible quality of life for terminal lypatients. Conclusion: It is perceived that nurses need to provide a humanized and singular care to the elderly, in order to minimize physical discomforts and social, psychological and emotional problems that can be caused by this disease. Such actions permeate the philosophy of palliative care, characterized by relief of symptoms, promotion of convenience and well-being.
