Abstract:
In an attempt to set an example of reading mapping verbal and
nonverbal elements, this study aimed to analyze the multimodal structure of the
Brazilian version of a special edition for the 125 years of National Geographic
magazine entitled "The Photography Power" by the theoretical and
methodological principles of semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce, from the
perspective of the researcher Lucia Santaella (2002). This article, therefore,
through a sample, proposed to articulate concepts about the relevance of multilanguage approach and the media universe in the teaching of Portuguese. The
first language teacher, as a mediator, must be aware of this multiplicity of
languages of contemporary texts to be able to drive the student to build the
ability to critically observe the multimodal choices present in the statements that
are part of their daily lives. Here, it was understood by multiple forms of
expression that are associated with written language and that, like words, are
essential for the full construction of meaning.
