O USO DA ELETROCONVULSOTERAPIA EM PACIENTES COM DEPRESSÃO: UMA REVISÃO DA LITERATURA
A eltroconvulsoterapia (ECT) é
um tratamento antigo utilizado para doenças
mentais, segundo Burguese (2015) “A ECT
parece atuar como reguladora do eixo
hipotalâmico-hipofisário-adrenal.” Gerando
efeitos positivos no tratamento dessas
doenças, principalmente da depressão. Para
CALDERÓN (2013) “Todos os pacientes
apresentaram uma melhora estatisticamente
significativa independentemente da presença
de psicose, depressão ou ambos.” O estudo
desenvolvido tem como objetivo analisar a
importância do tratamento e a sua eficácia.
Trata-se de uma revisão bibliográfica de artigos
científicos completos, localizados no banco de
dados da biblioteca virtual em saúde, na revista
em saúde BDENF e MEDLINE, por meio dos
descritores: eletroconvulsoterapia, pacientes
e psiquiátricos, publicados nos anos de 2014
a 2016, na língua portuguesa e inglesa,
com a temática de eletroconvulsoterapia em
pacientes mentalmente doentes. Os critérios
de exclusão foram artigos publicados antes
de 2014. A pesquisa foi realizada por 6
acadêmicos de enfermagem da instituição
de ensino UNIVERSIDADE DO VALE DO
IPOJUCA, Daniele Carvalho, Waldiane Soares
e Gustavo Sá, Thaís Alves e Maria Morais, com
a orientação de Carolina Vasconcelos, Mestre
em enfermagem e coordenadora do curso de
enfermagem da UNIFAVIP-WYDEN. Foram
encontrados 9 artigos, sendo selecionados 3,
que abordaram com clareza o tema proposto.
Observou-se que o tratamento realizado com
ECT reduz o nível de cortisol do paciente,
melhorando os casos de depressão com
hipercortisolismo. Durante a realização da
pesquisa observou-se uma pequena quantidade
de pesquisas atualizadas sobre o tema, que
tragam experiências que comprovem a eficácia
do tratamento e o seu mecanismo de ação.

Abstract:
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an ancient treatment used for
mental illness, according to Burguese (2015) “ECT seems to act as a regulator of the
hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.” Generating positive effects in the treatment of these
diseases, mainly depression. For CALDERÓN (2013) “All patients showed a statistically
significant improvement regardless of the presence of psychosis, depression or both.”
The objective of the study was to analyze the importance of treatment and its efficacy.
This is a bibliographical review of complete scientific articles, located in the database of
the virtual library in health, in the health magazine BDENF and MEDLINE, through the
descriptors: electroconvulsive therapy, patients and psychiatric, published in the years
2014 to 2016, in Portuguese and English, with the subject of electroconvulsive therapy
in mentally ill patients. The exclusion criteria were articles published before 2014.
The research was carried out by 6 nursing academics from the teaching institution
UNIVERSIDADE DO VALE DO IPOJUCA, Daniele Carvalho, Waldiane Soares and
Gustavo Sá, Thaís Alves and Maria Morais, with the guidance of Carolina Vasconcelos,
Master in nursing and coordinator of the nursing course of UNIFAVIP-WYDEN. Results
and Discussion: We found 9 articles, being selected 3, which clearly approached the
proposed theme. It was observed that the treatment performed with ECT reduces the
patient’s cortisol level, improving the cases of depression with hypercortisolism. During
the research, a small amount of up-to-date research on the subject was carried out,
which brings experiences that prove the efficacy of the treatment and its mechanism
of action.
